Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Indian universities for their remarkable performance in global rankings, attributing this achievement to the government's focus on delivering high-quality education. In a tweet, PM Modi expressed his satisfaction: "Delighted to witness India's universities making significant strides on the global platform! Our commitment to quality education is yielding positive outcomes."

He reaffirmed ongoing support for educational institutions, emphasising, "We will continue to bolster our universities, fostering opportunities for growth and innovation, which will greatly benefit our youth."

The prime minister's comments responded to Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer at Times Higher Education Ranking, who highlighted India's increasing presence in global rankings. Baty noted, "India's rising prominence in @timeshighered world rankings is notable, driven by @narendramodi's internationalisation reforms. A record 133 Indian universities participated in the 2025 rankings, up from 42 in 2017, solidifying India's position as the fourth most represented country globally."
In the World University Rankings 2024, 91 Indian universities secured positions, with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore leading the way, achieving the highest ranking for the first time since 2017.
