On National Education Day, leaders from academia and industry celebrate the transformative power of education in shaping India's future. They emphasise the importance of research, inclusivity and skill development. With a focus on interdisciplinary learning and critical thinking, educational institutions are working to address real-world challenges, fostering environments that encourage holistic growth and innovation. Industry experts underscore the need for accessible, world-class learning to build a highly skilled workforce capable of driving India’s economic ambitions. Honouring the legacy of visionary leaders, National Education Day serves as a reminder of education’s potential to empower individuals and uplift society, reinforcing its role as a pathway to opportunity and progress for all.
Manindra Agrawal, Director, IIT Kanpur said, "On National Education Day, we take pride in ensuring that IIT Kanpur stands on the strength of research to drive both educational and societal progress forward. Our driving force is to prepare students who think critically, innovate responsibly, and lead with purpose."
Somak Raychaudhury, Vice Chancellor, Ashoka University stated, "On National Education Day, we celebrate the legacy of our leaders who have laid the foundation of a truly inclusive and transformative education system in our country, which has played a pivotal role in empowering Indian citizens and revolutionising Indian societies. As we advance into an increasingly dynamic and tech-driven world, the Indian education system is evolving to address emerging challenges and nurture a new generation of holistic, well-rounded learners - a shining example of this progressive shift being the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. We at Ashoka University remain dedicated to fostering a learning environment that emphasises on interdisciplinary approach, critical thinking, inclusivity and global perspectives, key elements that will drive India’s educational success and contribute meaningfully to the realisation of Viksit Bharat.”
Alka Kapur, Principal Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, emphasises, “On National Education Day, we celebrate the vision, commitment and legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, whose contributions to the foundation of an educated, empowered India continue to inspire us. At Modern Public School, Shalimar Bagh, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a learning environment where students are nurtured to think critically, act compassionately and grow into responsible global citizens. Today, let all of us honour and incorporate the legacy of Maulana Azad by reaffirming our belief in the transformative power of education, ensuring that it remains a path of empowerment, opportunity and progress for all.”
On India’s National Education Day, we’re reminded of the transformative power of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4-education. It’s the foundation of human progress, empowering individuals, building just societies and driving sustainable growth," said Raghav Gupta, Managing Director, India and Asia Pacific, Coursera . "Our mission at Coursera aligns closely with this vision, providing accessible, world-class learning that equips individuals with industry-relevant skills and fosters lifelong learning. With India now surpassing all of Europe in learners on our platform, we’re excited to support this momentum, embracing AI-enhanced education to build an AI-skilled workforce and contribute to India’s journey toward a $5 trillion economy."
Hari Krishnan Nair, Co-Founder, Great Learning, expressed “India is competing with the world on a global stage and the key to standing out lies in equipping our youth with the right skills. While significant progress has been made, particularly with the National Education Policy (NEP) promoting initiatives like affordable online degrees, there is still much more to be done. The NEP introduced some impactful measures, but the affordability and accessibility of quality education remain critical areas to improve. Policies must focus on enabling Indian youth to acquire in-demand skills, especially as industries rapidly integrate technologies like AI and generative AI.
Beyond bridging traditional skill gaps, today’s graduates must meet the evolving demands of employers who expect proficiency in advanced technologies. According to the FY24-25 Great Learning Upskilling Trends Report, 85 per cent of Indian professionals are actively seeking upskilling opportunities, with a strong focus on AI. This trend is promising, but it’s crucial to create more opportunities for skill development, ensuring that every learner, regardless of economic background, has access to the tools they need to thrive. As job roles transform, our educational system must also evolve, helping young Indians not only keep pace but lead in the AI-driven future.”
