The education sector is an industry that witnesses frequent changes as multiple policies, circulations, results and admission roll out throughout the year. But 2020 is remembered as an important for the education sector as the National Education Policy was brought same year. There were multiple debates and deliberations happened for NEP 2020; some questioned its viability as it brought during covid while others called it the need of the hour.
On completion of four years of NEP 2020, The Department of School Education and Literacy, under the Ministry of Education (MoE), organised through a week-long observance of ‘Shiksha Saptah’ (Education Week) from 22 July to 28 July 2024.
The event aims to present a common platform to resonate and live the spirit of achievements gained over the last four years of NEP 2020 implementation.
Focussing on various aspects of education and development, each day of the week was dedicated to a specific theme. Days 1 and 2 were observed as Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) Day and Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) Day, respectively.
Internationalisation of education, multidisciplinary, focus on foundation learning, and acting on practical education are some of the significant reforms formulated by National Education Policy 2020.
Upliftment of education quality and providing equal opportunity to every student is government’s priority. These priorities were clearly visible in Union Budget 2024 as well, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her speech that a provision of Rs. 1.48 lakh crore has been made in the budget for education, employment and skilling.
