IIM Ahemdabad Appoints Errol D’Souza As Director-in-Charge

Professor Errol D’Souza has been appointed as Director-in-charge of Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Post the faculty council meeting, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Board of IIM Ahemdabad Society announced the appointment of D’Souza effective from Saturday, September 2, 2017. 

He would succeed Prof Ashish Nanda, a former professor of Harvard Law School. He was the first professor from a foreign institute to head an IIM and will complete 4 years as the director on September 1. Nanda cited personal reasons for his early exit from the institute.

D'Souza is a professor of economics, and the dean of faculty at the institute. He studied economics and statistics at the University of Mumbai where he was awarded the Kashinath Trimbak Telang gold medal for obtaining the first rank in in his MA (Economics) degree. He obtained his PhD as a University Grants Commission national research fellow from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

He is on the Academic Council of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Institute for Human Development, Delhi, and on the Advisory Board of the International Centre for Development and Decent Work at Kassel, Germany. He is also engaged in research in the areas of macroeconomics, development finance and public policy.
