Deep Narayan Nayak, a primary school teacher from West Bengal and Hari Krishna Patacharu, an English teacher from Andhra Pradesh, are two Indian teachers who have made the top 50 shortlist for the 2023 Global Teacher Prize. The announcement was made recently and it recognised their outstanding achievements to the field of education. The coveted prize honours educators from all over the world, with the winner picked from among the top ten finalists.
The global Teacher Prize, a USD 1-million annual award organised by the Varkey Foundation in partnership with UNESCO and in collaboration with the UAE-based philanthropic organisation, Dubai Cares, aims to recognise educators who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and innovation in their teaching practises.
Previously, Ranjitsinh Disale was awarded with the prestigious award in 2020 for his commendable contribution in the field of education.
This year, 7,000 nominations and applications were received from 130 countries around the world for the prestigious prize. The reward will now be reduced to the top ten finalists, that will be announced later this year. The Global Teacher Prize Academy, comprised of prominent personalities, will select the winner from among the top ten contenders.
The Global Teacher Prize is currently in its eighth year, was established with the aim of recogniing exceptional teachers who have made substantial contributions to the field of education. This prestigious award shines a spotlight on educators who not only demonstrate unwavering commitment but also showcase innovative teaching methods that have a profound influence on their students and the broader communities they serve.
