The Assam Valley School: Breaking Benchmarks

The Genesis:

With the vision of creating citizens beyond boundaries, believing that education is the best adventure in a child’s life, the Assam Valley School (AVS) was founded by the Williamson Magor Education Trust in 1995. AVS aims to prepare children for life and for global citizenship in the 21st century. In a short period of its existence, it has carved out a niche for itself and emerged as one of the finest residential schools in India, echoing the ethos of 21st century education.

Academic Excellence:

It is a popular belief that boarding schools do not produce good results in academics but AVS breaks this myth year after year. The school posted fantastic results in public examinations in 2017 with the ICSE Batch consisting of 131 students, scoring an impressive class aggregate of 86.99 per cent. The ISC Batch consisting of 110 students posted even better results with an astounding class aggregate of 89.66 per cent. The students graduating from AVS get admission to some of the best institutions for tertiary education around the world. The school offers a wide range of subjects across all levels. Each of these subjects has a well-accomplished teacher as the ‘chair’ of the department who is responsible for academic transaction of the subject. While the focus at the upper school level is on examination skills and preparing the students for university courses, the lower school concentrates on active learning and allows the children to be the driving force behind their own learning. The school conducts a number of in-house and outsourced workshops for its students and teachers in order to imbibe global best practices in education. Initiatives such as ‘Mindspark’, ‘Abacus’, ‘Science Adda’ and ‘Design-n-Experiment’ make learning interesting and purposeful.

Tech Friendly Campus:

The school encourages the use of modern technology in its teaching systems and to support that, each classroom is equipped with smartboards and Wi-Fi connectivity. The assignments given to the students promote research, collaboration and team-work. The school has a state-of-the library having 19,600 titles and subscription to 56 magazines and 14 newspapers.

The impressive academic programme makes up only one part of the education. AVS believes its students should have access to extra-curricular activities and it is committed to providing a holistic education by promoting sports, cultural pursuit, adventure and social service. Many students have had the exposure of participating in national level championships organised by School Games Federation of India.
