Professors Of IIIT-D Represented The Institute In The ACM MobiCom 2018

It’s the first time that India is hosting the ACM MobiCom which is introduced by SIGMOBILE in 1995, and for organizing this event in India, Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) played a very active role. Many faculty members of IIIT-D are the part of the organizing committee, and many will present papers/posters at the conference.

MobiCom is a common ground for experts, researchers, practitioners, and thought-leaders to present their innovations and experiences on various aspects of communication technologies. Mr. Mukesh Ambani delivered the keynote address at the opening session. Amongst the keynote speakers from the US and UK were Monica Lam, Stanford University (USA), Andrea Goldsmith, Stanford University (USA), Kathleen M Carly, Carnegie Mellon University (USA), and Peter T Kristein, University College London (UK). They shed light on various intriguing topics such as Communications for Embedded and Energy-Harvesting Systems, Edge Computing, Long-Range/Low-Power Wide-Area Wireless Networking, Low-Latency Networking, Machine-to-Machine Communications, Mobile Web, Next-Generation 5G mobile networks, Visible Light Communications, and many other relevant topics.

From IIIT-D, research papers were presented on various interesting topics like Communications for Embedded and Energy-Harvesting Systems, Edge Computing, Long-Range/Low-Power Wide-Area Wireless Networking, Low-Latency Networking, Machine-to-Machine Communications, Mobile Web, Next-Generation 5G mobile networks, and Visible Light Communications.

Eminent researchers like Teresa Meng of Stanford University, Kyle Jamieson of Princeton University, Don Towsley of the University of Massachusetts, and Victor Bahl of Microsoft Research were also felicitated at ACM MobiCom 2018 for their valuable contributions to the communication world in the areas of mobile computing and wireless and mobile networking.

As faculty members of IIIT-D have proactively contributed to ACM MobiCom 2018 with their assiduous management capabilities and research work, Professor Ranjan Bose, Director of IIIT-D was overwhelmed with the success of this historic event. Elated with this achievement of IIIT-D family, Prof. Bose said, ““Whenever any constructive disruption embarks upon technology landscape our teachers, as well as students, offer their best to raise the name of our country. I feel proud on our professors who are representing the institute in the 24th edition of ACM MobiCom, a platform for researchers to showcase disruptive ideas, technologies, and solutions in the areas of Mobile Computing and Networking. And I hope that ACM will also emerge as a unique career platform to our budding engineers”.

In addition to the regular programmes, there are eight workshops, four tutorials, panel discussions, research demonstrations, and a poster session are the top highlights of ACM MobiCom 2018. This year MobiCom will also have Topic Preview Session, where experts will share their knowledge on the current and upcoming trends in the field. ACM MobiCom 2018 will also feature mobile app competitions and demos which will demonstrate the working models of the newest research trends in the field of mobile and wireless systems. The event will be concluded on 02 November 2018 at Le-Meridien Hotel, Windsor Place, New Delhi.
