Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) alumnus Akhil Sheoran has secured a gold medal for India in the 50-metre Rifle 3 Positions (3Ps) men's team event at the Asian Games 2023 in China. The Indian trio, comprising Akhil Sheoran, Aishwary Tomar, and Swapnil Kusale, not only clinched the gold but also set a new world record, adding to India's glory.
Akhil also secured a bronze medal in the individual men's 50m Rifle 3 Position event.
Expressing his aspirations, Akhil Sheoran revealed his dream of winning an Olympic medal for the country, emphasizing the pivotal role JMI played in shaping his ambitions. He stated, "Jamia has a Wall of Fame with pictures of all the brilliant athletes who pursued their education from the university. I, too, wanted my picture up there one day... This is where I started dreaming big, and the Olympics is the answer!"
JMI Vice Chancellor Prof Najma Akhtar and Pro Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Eqbal Hussain conveyed their heartfelt wishes to Akhil and expressed their hope that he will continue to excel, bringing more medals and glory to the nation. Prof Waseem Khan, Director of Games & Sports, JMI, also extended his best wishes to Akhil for his future endeavors.
