The third National Workshop on Technology Innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (TIPS) was held at C3iHub, a cybersecurity Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) of The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. The National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) of the Government of India's Department of Science & Technology (DST) oversaw the organisation of the workshop. A comprehensive Mission, NM-ICPS unites academia, business, the government and international organisations. It has developed an ecosystem that encourages entrepreneurship, produces next-generation skilled labour, jumpstarts translational research and pushes the commercialisation of CPS technologies. The workshop has been set up to promote communication and knowledge sharing between the NM-ICPS Mission Office, its expert Committee members and TIH.
Dr V K Saraswat Member (S&T) NITI Aayog, Government of India inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Dr Akhilesh Gupta, Sr. Advisor DST and Secretary- SERB, Dr Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, Axilor Ventures, Bengaluru, Prof S Ganesh Officiating Director, IIT Kanpur and Dr Ekta Kapoor, Mission Director, NM-ICPS DST.
In December 2018, the Department of Science & Technology (DST) launched the NM-ICPS with a budget of Rs 3660 crore for five years. This mission deals with our growing technology needs and keeps an eye on what other countries are doing in technology. As part of this mission, they created 25 Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) in top institutes all over India. These hubs focus on making new technology, training people, helping new businesses and doing research with other countries. To make sure everything goes smoothly, they have workshops where experts talk to the hubs.
Each hub is like its own company inside a big institute. They work on different high-tech stuff like artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, data analysis, robots and more. The NM-ICPS Mission wants to build new technology, do research, make products, help new companies and sell these cool ideas to make life better for all of us.
