21st century skills are the abilities that today’s students need to excel in their careers during this information era. These constitute of communication, media literacy, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, information literacy, technology literacy, flexibility, leadership, initiative, productivity and social skills.
These skills are required to assist students keep up with the lightning-pace of present-day modern markets. Each skill is unique in how it supports students, but they all have one trait in common. They are all essential in the current age of internet.
"Now world is changing. To make children equipped to exist and as well as delve and dive in 21st century, they need to speak. So communication has to be the prime goal. If we won't allow our children to speak, how will they learn," stated Oshima Mathur, Principal, Navy Children School, Delhi, in a panel discussion organised by BW Education titled, '21st Century Skills: How to Integrate Skills Components Closely at School and College levels'.
She further added, "Whatever goals we have in education, they have to be taught in a very subtle manner in our classrooms."
