Dharmendra Pradhan has announced the commencement of India Skills 2023-24, National Skill Competition, Candidates can enroll from ‘Skill India Digital platform’ website.
The cash prize for Silver Medal winners was Rs 8 lakh and the cash prize for their experts was Rs 3 lakh. The Bronze category winners received Rs 6 lakh and their advisors received Rs. Cash awards of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh each were given to the candidates and experts who received the Medallion for Excellence.
WorldSkills Shanghai 2022, which was postponed in may owing to the epidemic was officially replaced by World Skills Competition 2022 Special Edition. The skill events were contested over a 12-week period in 15 different nations and areas between 7 September and 26 November 2022, departing from its original format.
“Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India prioritises competencies, knowledge and hands-on training for 21 century leadership. Skill competitions enhance youth employability and market acceptance. The National Education Policy 2020 integrates skill development with education, aiming for India's participation in world skills 2023-24. Industry, academia and policymakers should collaborate for skill development”, Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said.
The 46th world skills event, scheduled for 2021 but postponed due to the pandemic, featured over 400,000 visitors and 62 skill competitions.
The winners shared inspiring stories of overcoming obstacles, including pandemic, to compete against the world's best candidates in their respective trades.
The World Skills Competition's ranking of 11th in 2022 reflects the growing need for multi-industry training among youth to expand career opportunities and equip the workforce with diverse skills. India participated in 50 skills competitions, with 19 per cent of women participating in traditionally male-dominated fields like welding, plumbing, heating, CNC milling and bricklaying. This aligns with Prime Minister’s vision of harnessing Nari Shakti for nation development.
The India Skills Competition 2023-24 aims to promote global skills standards, competitiveness and innovation in automotive, electronics, green jobs and manufacturing sectors. The competition encourages innovation and collaboration among governments, industry and academia to close the skill gap and prepare the youth for the ever-evolving job market. This initiative aims to help Indian youth attain world-class standards of competence, excellence and productivity.
