Dream Big & Aim Big But Remain Rooted In Your Culture, Values, And Heritage: VP Naidu Says At IILM University Inauguration

IILM University, Gurugram was inaugurated by Honourable Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu last week. IILM University has been set up under the Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act 2018 which will open its doors to the students from the current academic year starting from July 2018.


The event, held at IILM campus in Lodhi Road, witnessed eminent personalities like Dr S.Y Quraishi, Former Chief Election Commissioner and Chancellor-Designate of IILM University, Shri Raj Nehru, Vice Chancellor, Haryana Vishwakarma Skill University and Mrs Malvika Rai, Chairperson -IILM.


Dr Sujata Shahi ,Vice-Chancellor Designate, IILM University in her welcome address said “Today we remember our founder, Dr Kulwant Rai. In some measure, this is the fulfillment of his dream. IILM University will deliver an academic experience that fosters intellectual curiosity, a critical thought process, self-reflection, leadership and a heightened sensitivity to one’s socio-cultural environment.”


Dr Quraishi, Chancellor Designate, unfolded the vision of IILM University being global, inclusive and responsible. He said “’IILM University envisages to be a leading Liberal Arts University in Asia with a focus on Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Technology.’’ Dr Quraishi also informed that IILM has Over 30 international collaboration with reputed global institutions & Incubation centres spread over in an area of 40000 sq. feet.


This was followed by the inauguration of IILM University by Honourable Vice President of India. Shri Naidu complimented the entire University on the initiative of setting up liberal arts in Gurgaon. He said “Education is my passion. I am delighted to inaugurate the IILM University and am glad to know that the University mission is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision of inclusive learning and skill development. He stressed that Liberal education with the interdisciplinary approach is a must and said he was glad IILM University is focused on this. 


“Education should not only prepare our youth to face challenges of a technologically-driven knowledge society but also make them analyze critically and come out with innovative solutions to the problems faced by people. They should be confident of dreaming big and exploring uncharted territories. At the same time, students should remain rooted to our culture, traditions, customs and history. They should never neglect their parents, mother tongue, motherland and native village. They should always believe in co-existing harmoniously with nature for a better future”, Naidu added.

V-P Naidu said “I am pleased to note that IILM has been part of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education initiative since its inception in 2008. The University’s focus on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity), and working closely with the UN Global Compact India will allow it to be a responsible provider of higher education”.


The University campus which is environment-friendly is located in Sector 53 Gurugram, and has a built-up area of over 1.5 lakh square feet.
