Cabinet Nod For Bill On One-time Retrospective Recognition To Teacher Training Institutions

New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) The Union Cabinet today approved introduction of a Bill in Parliament for granting recognition with retrospective effect, as a one-time measure, to central and state institutions running teacher training courses without permission.

The Bill is for amending the National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 (NCTE) which will make students, who are studying or those who have passed out from these institutions and universities which have not been recognised, eligible for employment as teachers.

"The NCTE (Amendment) Act, 2017 will grant retrospective recognition to the central/state universities that are found to be conducting teacher education courses without NCTE permission," an official release said.

"The retrospective recognition was being given as a one- time measure to ensure that the future of the students who had passed out or were currently enrolled was not jeopardised," it added.

The amendment has been proposed by HRD Ministry's Department of School Education and Literacy.

As per norms, all institutions running courses such as B.Ed. and D.El.Ed, have to obtain recognition from the NCTE under Section 14 of the Act. PTI GJS RT
