Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies (VIPS) of IPU hosts a media festival each year bringing together dozens of fun and innovative activities to entertain, teach and inform students of different courses. The fest is put together by the students and faculty of mass communications department of the college, every year they come together to give new opportunities to participants and to continue their tradition of Spandan.
The fest was held for three consecutive days, 3rd to 5th December, 2020. During these three days there were webinars, contests, talks and show put up by not only the participants but also the team of Spandan. They kick started Spandan and they closed the show with absolute grace, this was a great initiative to give the students a chance sitting at home to showcase their talents and polish their skills.
Last day of Spandan started with the most important problem to be discussed in a student’s life, Mental Health. While the world is going through crisis, sitting at home being locked inside the house has affected student mental health in the worst way possible so addressing such issue by Tanushree Sangma, an expert, was a good step and a superlative session where Tanushree talked about different aspects of Mental Health and Clinical Depression and later addressed the queries of students on the matter.
The fest continued with different webinars and contests like, an Ad Campaign Pitching competition with Suraja Kishore, CEO of BBDO, India, as the speaker, where he talked about changing aspects of advertising world and how it directly affects the success of the organizations. This was followed by Break the Box taken by Aman Dhattarwal, founder of ‘Apni Kaksha’, he took a rather interactive session about stories of hustle, passion and entrepreneurship.
The afternoon of the fest was decorated with other sessions including contests. Firstly, there was Ravayat: a Hindi and Urdu Poetry Writing Workshop with Atif Khan, of Poetry Darbar. He talked about different types of writings and works in Hindi and Urdu; he took different questions from the participants and gave tips about writing in the above stated languages. On the other hand, there was another webinar going on with Social Media Content Creators, The Bajis, Yashvi Bagga and Vipasha Malhotra; who shared their respective journeys and insights about being content creators in these times. The interactive webinars were followed by a Video Editing Competition and a workshop conducted by Abhishek Sigh Rathore, Industry Expert Filmmaker and Video Editor.
The last webinar of the last day of Spandan was on Event Management with Prof. David Hind, President for Asia Pacific Institute of Event Management. The discussion was on the future of Event Industry in pro Covid Era, this was like the other an interactive and fun session.
The show time was ended with an excellent Musical Grand Finale, what better to end Spandan the media festival than an evening of Theatre, Drama and Music put up by the team Spandan. The festival was conducted on meeting apps and with live show on YouTube, Spandan was rather a relief in this time when everyone is sitting at home and uncertain about for how long we might have to stay indoors.
