As the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024 rankings are out, prominent voices from the academic community share their perspectives.
Kamal Kishore Pant, Director, IIT Roorkee, stated, “We are honoured to be recognised again as the top institution in the NIRF 2024 rankings for Architecture and Planning. IIT Roorkee's continued success in this category reflects our enduring commitment to excellence and innovation in architectural and planning education and research. This consistent top performance is a result of the hard work and dedication of our exceptional faculty, students and the entire IIT Roorkee community. We are proud to lead in shaping the future of the built environment and remain dedicated to advancing the field through cutting-edge research and impactful education."
Suresh Ramanathan, Dean, Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai, said, “The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) is perhaps the definitive and most objective of all the rankings for institutions of higher education in the country. It recognises institutional performance on multiple dimensions and enables a fair comparison of institutions across all criteria. It provides various stakeholders including students (current and prospective) and recruiters with a standardised set of criteria based on which they can make their decisions. There are areas where the NIRF can develop some more insight, especially pertaining to research quality and innovativeness, both of which are important to create more future-oriented institutions. In particular, Indian institutions’ ability to compete against the top universities around the world critically depends on how agile we are in developing a world-class curriculum and supporting it with cutting-edge research. Tracking performance over time on these parameters will help Indian institutions to compete better against their global counterparts and signal their agility and nimbleness in a crowded marketplace.”
Dr Padmakali, Vice Chancellor and Professor, IILM University, emphasised, “The prospects of sustainability ranking in NIRF call for collective action in attaining global goals as envisaged by the UN sustainable development goals, is a welcome move that allows for sustained efforts towards advocating SDGs while enabling institutional visibility and recognition for their contribution in promoting global goals. The inclusion of open universities, skill universities and state-funded government universities allows for diversity, equity, inclusiveness in Indian higher educational landscape in attaining shared progress.”
