Professional English Skills Project, National Institute Of Technology Patna

Students were grouped into batches based on their English language level. For each level, the course content was based on the students’ needs. There was a strong focus on interview skills, group discussion, presentation skills and CV writing. Real-life tasks were simulated in the classroom to give course participants the opportunity to practice the skills they had learnt.

Course assessments and lesson observations indicated that participants had an increased understanding of the interview process. They demonstrated how to interview successfully using tips and techniques learnt on the course. Of the students who have been part of this course so far this year, 98 per cent feel they are more confident with their communication skills as a result of the course. They have shown a marked improvement in speaking English during group discussions and in their use of grammar and functional phrases.

99 percent of these students feel that they have gained new knowledge from attending this course and 96 percent have reported being able to directly apply what they have learnt on this course. They are now better equipped for their job placement process and this training has provided them with the tools needed to secure jobs with global multinational companies.

A student selected as graduate engineer trainee with a French multinational described how the skills he acquired as a result of attending the British Council course had provided him with an edge over other candidates and helped him secure a job in this multinational company.

Testimonial by Shubham Mishra

“The British Council has a good reputation for training students in a multi-cultural environment with the help of highly qualified teachers. This helped me decide to receive guidance from them for my future prospects. The British Council exhibited immense professionalism that really impressed me. They made every effort to make it a good experience for me. I wanted the course to last for longer than just 3 days, as I enjoyed the training sessions.

The sessions I attended during the course were mainly focused on how to frame and support points with strong supportive but brief arguments in any kind of conversation. Be it group discussions, presentations or an interview, the key for excelling in these is to back one's views or points in a way that there remains absolutely no room for doubt

This was one of my prime objectives for enrolling myself for the course. All the mock group discussions and interviews that were organized during the sessions helped me to make good structured arguments on various topics.

Making a good, crisp and presentable resume for the interviews was also one of the most important parts of the curriculum. Practically, I didn't face any GD rounds in particular while sitting for placements, but key points like how to talk, what to tell, how much to tell, how to structure the answers. The trainers also trained us on positive body language that helped me a lot to pass the series of personal interviews

Thanking the British Council once again for their guidance.”
