Polytechnic Students Get Better Jobs Offers Than Graduates: Navin Mittal

The focus of engineering education, initially, was to produce graduate who will implement, operate and manage the technology. But with the changing industry trends, there is a need for engineering graduates to be conversant with existing practices in the industry while also acting as agents to bring in innovation and improvements.

“To deal with the VUCA world, we need have chaos”, said Navin Mittal, IAS, Commissioner, Collegiate and Technical Education, Government of Telangana.

Mittal further elaborates and said that students need to be trained in soft skills. He said, “Communication skills and decision making are more important these days than technical skills”.

He reminisces his learnings post his technical education and said, “Technical skills did not help me further in life much rather the not giving up attitude, competitive skills and accepting failure are helping today”.

IAS Navin Mittal also informs that a polytechnic student is offered better job offer than a B.Tech Graduate.

The industry is changing at a fast pace and collaboration is only way to be aligned with the industry. We need to combine Science (rational thinking), Engineering (practical thinking) and Technology (innovative thinking), he asserts.

“The future of technical education looks ambiguous and volatile. The students should be trained to keep on learning and we are on that path. The future of India is definitely bright”, he said.

Thus, the educational institutions and regulatory framework have to embrace the industrial revolution and process at much faster pace.
