Join The Earth Friendly Journey

This year, two of Ladakh's most inspiring organisations -- SECMOL (the Students' Education and Cultural Movement of Ladakh) and HIAL(the Himalayan Institute of Alternatives, Ladakh), both co-founded by Rolex Award for Enterprise and CNN-IBN Real Heroes award-winner Sonam Wangchuk, have come together to create a unique learning experience for school students across India. Journeys with Meaning is the design and implementation partner for these journeys.

A brand new students' programme conceptualized by SECMOL and HIAL in Ladakh and designed and implemented by Journeys with Meaning. This fantastic learning journey has been crafted exclusively for students between 14-17 years of age.

Journeys with Meaning has been conducting 'Learning from Ladakh' trips for adult groups for the last 10 years and for school students since the last 2 years.

Using responsible travel as a medium, this immersive 9-day programme aims to inspire, inform and educate students about the different environmental issues the world is facing today, and to expose them to the incredible earth-friendly solutions Ladakhis have come up with to deal with these issues.

Through this exciting learning journey, students will learn about and experience first-hand:

The ingenious Ice Stupa - Artificial Glacier

Passive solar technology and earth-architecture

The magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Ladakh by trekking through its beautiful terrain

Engage with and exchange insightful ideas with Ladakhi students

Hands-on work on a farm

The Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL) and Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) are two highly-inspiring organizations working to solve the problems of mountain communities. They have come up with inspiring solutions for issues that climate change brings with it. On these learning journeys, we will be taking interested students to Ladakh to interact with and learn from them as part of this programme.
