University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar has been deputed as the interim head of the All India Council For Technical Education (AICTE). The UGC Chairman will take charge as the acting head of the AICTE as Anil Sahasrabudhe, the present chairperson will retire on September 1, Thursday.
"While the appointment of a regular Chairman, AICTE is in process, approval of Education Minister is conveyed to hand over the additional charge of Chairman, AICTE for the time being to Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC till the appointment of a regular Chairman, AICTE or until further orders, whichever is earlier," according to the Education Ministry release.
M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the Chairman of UGC on February 4. He has previously held the post of Vice Chancellor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Prof Kumar has worked extensively in the areas of Nano-electronic Devices, Nanoscale Device Modelling and Simulation, Power Semiconductor Devices and Innovative Device Design. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India, the Indian National Academy of Engineering and The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers, India.
