Impact Of 3d Printing And Robotics In The Education System

In this era of technology at our finger-tips, C.P Goenka International School have analyzed and introduced 3D Printing and Robotics for the benefit of the students as a part of their DESIGN CLUB post-school hours.

3D printing is defined as an additive manufacturing or a process of making three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Students will be trained on how to design products that will then be printed. This will help them learn about how prototypes can be made and also understand whether this is the career path ahead for them.

How it Works:

This technology is primarily introduced and focuses on subjects like science and mathematics.

Due to the growing importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and now (STEAM) encompassing Arts too.

It can also be used for creating miniatures of historical monuments and/or 3D prototype of planets etc to touch upon topics like history and geography.

This innovation has helped the students to engage more in a particular activity.

It has helped increase their motivation for learning and they are more curious than ever before.

Students understand complex concepts and test theories more clearly which then encourages them to experience and explore a career in science or engineering with more gusto. It helps them grasp finer nuances of the subject matter and retain information with more ease. This is especially beneficial when using physical learning materials or objects. For example, typically, when students are learning about fossils and artifacts, they are unable to touch or hold items. 3D printing lets students touch, study, and take-home products that are as intricate as the real-world equivalent.

The concept has currently been introduced to the secondary and primary sections. The parents have responded with great enthusiasm for this introduction.

We are ensuring that the topics covered in the robotics sessions are mapped with our syllabus and curriculum. So, students can relate to the theoretical concepts in textbooks with the actual hands-on approach. For example, students learn topic on Electricity-Light in theory, then create a working project on Electricity-Light using batteries, bulb, switch, resistors, breadboard etc.

Benefits:

Parents get a comprehensive report of every robotics session which is conducted in school, along with photos and reports.

Through this, they can understand and analyse their child's performance. As per the report, the performance of every student who has enrolled for the robotics program has displayed an increase in their creative, logical, analytical and problem-solving attributes. Even life skills such as perseverance, patience and teamwork are learnt.

In the last few years, there has been a paradigm shift in the education system in India.

Interactive whiteboards & projectors, learning management systems (lMS), teaching aids, online tools like google classroom etc have become an integral part of the academics. It is also helping the teachers to increase engagement activities within the classroom to improve student participation and create a rewarding learning environment for all.

Being an early entrant into this space, this technological advancement is giving the advantage of learning early and being able to contribute vastly to space. Thus, shaping future minds, thereby shaping the future of India.
