The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is partnering with various industries to offer employability-focused online skilling courses in cutting-edge areas, available in multiple Indian languages at an affordable cost, under the Union Ministry of Education's landmark initiative SWAYAM Plus.
SWAYAM Plus, a partnership between the Ministry of Education and IIT Madras, has signed 24 MoUs with 36 industry partners to provide skill and employability-focused online programmes and internships, increasing its total partners to 36.
Launched by Dharmendra Pradhan, the initiative aims to provide accessible learning opportunities.
Over 75,000 learners have benefited from over 165 courses since its launch, with 33 aligned to the National Credit Framework across various sectors. MoUs were signed on campus with V Kamakoti, Director, R Sarathi, Dean (Planning) and Professor In-Charge, SWAYAM Plus, IIT Madras and industry partners' leadership teams.
The MoUs cover various fields like Information Technology, Social Sciences, Banking, Finance, Soft Skills, Music, Management, Food Science and Indian Knowledge Systems, offering comprehensive skill development for future employability.
SWAYAM Plus plans to offer programmes in various sectors, including Manufacturing, Energy, Computer Science, Engineering, IT/ITES, Management Studies, Teacher Education, Healthcare, Hospitality and Tourism, Social Science, Indian Knowledge Systems, Media and Communications, aiming to improve educational outcomes and prepare learners for the evolving job market.
