Former IIT Student Develops Drone To Spray Disinfectant

In order to check the spread of Coronavirus in the country, the IIT students have developed a special type of drone that is capable to sanitize around one lakh meters in a day by sprinkling the sanitizer by flying up to 400 meters high.

Abhijit Jayanti, an ex-student of IIT Delhi and Chairman of Autobird Technologies, is behind the drones.

According to Jayanti, “Each drone can do about 25 flights per day and can cover one lakh square meters in a day with a spraying tank of 10 litre. That too without any human contact.” The company is solely responsible for the care and operation of the drone.

Jayanti said that he has conducted a successful demonstration in and Delhi NCR and also in Telangana. The work was well appreciated by the Telangana administration, he said.

This drone is fitted with a 10-litre tank filled with sanitizer and can sanitise around two acres of area in one go. As of present, this drone is being successfully used in Jaishankar Bhupalapally district in Telangana. A ground-breaking ‘Bhupalpally e-Fresh’ scheme has also been flagged off to ease the pains of common people of the district from current lockdown.

Praising the efforts made by Jayanti, the District Collector Telangana, Md. Abdul Azeem, IAS, who is in the forefront in the fight against coronavirus in Bhupalpally district, said, “the drones deployed in the district are one of its kind that can spray disinfectant in an area of about one lakh square meters in a day from a height of about 400 meters. District Administration is using all other means in this fight including Sanitisation Tunnels in crowded areas, apart from arranging free meals for the needy all across the district.

District Collector further said, “The drones are also being used to closely monitor those who violate the lockdown and at the same time, are proving very useful in the efforts to  spray disinfectant in areas where it is usually difficult for the employees to reach.”
