Approximately 70 students were hospitalised on Friday following a reported case of food-related illness stemming from a mid-day meal served at a government school located in southwest Delhi's Dabri locality.
Authorities have taken swift action, with the Delhi government issuing a show cause notice to the mid-day meal supplier implicated in the incident. Officials affirm the affected children are now in stable condition and emphasise the need for proper food safety measures in schools. An investigation is underway and those responsible for the incident will face consequences, authorities assert.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Manoj C stated that around 6 pm, a PCR call alerted the Sagarpur police station to the situation, reporting that approximately 70 boys from classes VI to VIII had experienced vomiting after consuming a mid-day meal at Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya School in Durgapark, Sagarpur. The students were promptly transported to DDU Hospital and Dada Dev Hospital in Dabri. School officials indicated that the consumption of soya juice after the meal had allegedly led to stomach pain and vomiting among the students.
Forensic experts were dispatched to the scene to gather evidence, including remnants of the meal and juice in question. It was reported that the mid-day meal comprised "puri subji" (a fried bread dish with a vegetable side) followed by soya juice. Distribution of further food and juice was halted when students began complaining of discomfort. The Deputy Commissioner of Police affirmed that all students are presently in stable condition. An official complaint (FIR) will be registered and a thorough investigation into the matter will be conducted
