In a significant move aimed at bolstering youth employment and skills development, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has unveiled an ambitious scheme in the Budget 2024-25. The initiative aims to provide internship opportunities to 1 crore young individuals across 500 top companies, with the dual benefits of a monthly allowance and a one-time financial assistance.
Under this new scheme, interns will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, aimed at supporting them during their internship period. Additionally, participants will be eligible for a one-time assistance of Rs 6,000 to help cover any initial expenses related to their internship placement. This initiative is designed to enhance the employability of youth by offering practical work experience and financial support.
The programme targets a broad spectrum of industries, with 500 leading companies committed to providing valuable internship experiences. By aligning with top-tier firms, the scheme is expected to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world application, equipping young professionals with the skills and exposure needed for a successful career.
Finance Minister Sitharaman highlighted that this initiative reflects the government's commitment to nurturing talent and addressing youth unemployment.
