Budget 2019: Launching 'Study In India' Initiative To Target Foreign Students, Says Fin Min

The Finance minister announced ‘Study in India’ programme, today, to encourage the foreign students to study in the country. She also expressed that from the past five years no Indian institute made it in top 200 Global Rankings.

Two IITs and IISc were recently figured in the top 200 of World University Ranking.

"Concerted efforts have been made to boost education standards. Three institutes - two IITs and IISc (Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru) are in top 200. We will continue making concerted efforts," said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The minister also stated, “India has the potential to become the hub of education” and the "Study in India'' programme will focus on bringing foreign students to the country.

Commenting on the Study in India initiative, Gaurav Srivastava, Regional Director, South Asia, GMAC said, “We are pleased to hear that the government is keen to make India an international hub for education. We have been running a ‘Study in India’ campaign for the last two years in partnership with some of India’s leading business schools to help them with their recruitment efforts in getting international candidates in the classroom who bring with them diversity and a rich perspective of what is happening in other economies”.

The programme 'Study in India' will focus on attracting foreign students to study in Indian higher educational institutions.

Presenting the Union Budget, Sitharaman said that regulatory system in higher education will be reformed and a Higher Education Commission will be set up.

Applauding the presented Budget, Dr Aseem Chauhan, Chairman and Chancellor of Amity University said, “This is perhaps the most awaited budget for the education sector in recent history. We laud the Government's initiative to attract foreign students through the Study in India program. By including this initiative in Union Budget, Government has emphasized its effort to increase India’s market share of global education exports”.
