The Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Declares the Elimination of Class 10 (HSLC) Board Exams.
Assam's Secondary Education Board (SEBA) has recently announced that it will discontinue the Class 10 (HSLC) board exams starting from the upcoming academic year. The new approach entails conducting madhyamik level assessments as internal examinations within schools.
Under the revised system, students will receive thorough evaluation and will be designated as either pass or fail. Nevertheless, the exams will now take place at the school level. It is important to note that the Assam Higher Secondary (HS) exams will continue to be conducted annually in the usual manner.
This decision to forgo Class 10 board exams aligns with the vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP), as education officials believe that these exams will gradually lose their significance. Moreover, the Minister indicated that the merging of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and SEBA is imminent.
Meanwhile, SEBA has already released the results for the Class 10 exams in May of this year. Among the candidates, a notable 94,913 students achieved first division marks (46,431 boys and 48,482 girls), while 148,573 students secured second division (71,060 boys and 77,513 girls). Additionally, 58,394 students received third division marks (25,033 boys and 33,361 girls).
Out of the 415,324 students who appeared for the Class 10 exams, an impressive 301,880 students successfully passed, resulting in an overall pass percentage of 72.69 per cent.
