An Institution More Than Just An Academics: Mohan Babu University

Mohan Babu University is a beacon of innovation and inclusivity, empowering students to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. Vishnu Manchu, an actor, producer and philanthropist, is the pro-chancellor of Mohan Babu University, established in 2022 by his father Dr M Mohan Babu. He is also the Chairman and Founder of New York Academy, Springboard Educational Trust and a film hero. Vishnu Manchu has successfully implemented technology and multimedia in schools and colleges sponsored by the Trust. He is also involved in the Dr. M. Mohan Babu Rural Health Scheme and established the Vishnu Manchu Art Foundation (VMAF) to bridge the gap between artists and art lovers.

In interaction with BW Education, Vishnu Manchu, Pro-Chancellor of Mohan Babu University, shares his thoughts and insights on strategies and innovations led by the university for the holistic development of students. 

As an actor how did the idea of education institute come about and what have been the challenges and rewards of this new journey? 

While cinema is my passion, my father's (Padma Shri Dr M Mohan Babu) dedication to education has inspired me deeply. He laid the foundation of Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Institutions in 1992, embodying a legacy of exemplary service to society. Consequently, this sparked the idea of a brownfield university. The institution is about more than just academics; it's about nurturing individuals with strong values. As an actor, I connect with people through stories & emotions, but education allows me to empower individuals to write their own stories & shape their destinies. This new journey has certainly been an enriching experience, but not without its challenges. Ensuring we provide our students with the finest faculty, a diverse curriculum and a holistic learning environment comes with its own set of hurdles. But the rewards are immeasurable. Building a university from the ground up has been challenging, but witnessing our students' transformation fills me with pride.

What innovative strategies has Mohan Babu University implemented to adapt to the evolving landscape of education?

At Mohan Babu University (MBU), we recognise the constant evolution of education. We actively seek to bridge the gap between theory and practice by integrating real-world projects, industry expert lectures and internship opportunities, equipping our students with the skills employers crave. Technology is central to our approach, using online platforms, blended learning and VR/AR tools for a dynamic learning experience.

MBU fosters an interdisciplinary approach, fostering critical thinking and adaptability. We nurture the entrepreneurial spirit by offering dedicated courses, incubation facilities and mentorship, enabling students to become not just job seekers, but job creators. Beyond academics, we prioritise holistic development, nurturing emotional intelligence and leadership. Our graduates are not just knowledgeable but adaptable and ready for success in the evolving Industry 4.0. 

Can you share any initiatives promoting inclusivity and diversity within the student body and faculty of Mohan Babu University?

We firmly believe in creating a welcoming and supportive environment that embraces diversity and inclusion. To promote inclusivity, we have implemented various initiatives such as diversity awareness workshops and cultural exchange programmes, where students and faculty from different backgrounds can come together to celebrate their unique identities and perspectives. Additionally, we prioritise recruiting faculty members from diverse linguistic and religious backgrounds and providing them with resources and support to ensure their success. Our goal is to make everyone feel valued, respected and empowered to thrive academically and personally.

How does the university foster a culture of research and innovation among its faculty and students?

With over 20+ research labs and 12+ research centres, the university provides a conductive environment for exploration and discovery. Faculty members actively engage in research endeavours, resulting in over 1200+ indexed papers published and numerous research projects valued at INR 7 crore+ through prestigious organisations like DST, AICTE, DSIR and GC. Additionally, we encourage student involvement in research, with 250+ student-published papers and opportunities to participate in cutting-edge projects. Recently, one of the university's professors, Dr Manikandan, was recognised among the top 2 per cent of scientists by Stanford for his research's societal impact. The university also supports innovation through an Entrepreneurship Development Cell and an AICTE-Idea Lab, providing collaborative spaces for students, faculty and staff to develop innovative ideas and solutions. These initiatives collectively contribute to fostering a vibrant culture of research and innovation within the university community. 

How does the university leverage technology to enhance the teaching-learning process and provide a modern educational experience?

We're dedicated to more than just technology infrastructure at Mohan Babu University. Our curriculum integrates cutting-edge tools and platforms, like interactive materials and virtual labs, enriching the learning experience. Faculty receive training to effectively use these technologies, ensuring personalised instruction. We also employ innovative teaching methods, like flipped classrooms and blended learning, fostering active participation and collaboration. Our goal is to prepare students for the digital age and global workforce while enhancing the teaching-learning process.

In what ways does the university promote interdisciplinary studies and holistic development among its students?

Our expansive library serves as a gateway to interdisciplinary learning and research, boasting over 142,422 volumes and 22,000 titles. Integrated curriculum and interdisciplinary courses empower students to forge connections between fields, nurturing a holistic understanding of complex topics. Through experiential learning opportunities like internships and study abroad programmes, students bridge theory with practice, preparing for real-world challenges. Collaborations with esteemed universities such as the University of Wisconsin and industry giants like Google ensure that our students acquire industry-relevant skills. Additionally, our commitment to innovation is evident in our incorporation of cutting-edge New Age Courses, ranging from Artificial Intelligence to Sustainable Energy Management, reflecting our forward-looking mission.
