NAAC’s Prof Dhirendra Pal Singh Appointed UGC Chairperson
In a recent development, Prof Dhirendra Pal Singh, director, National Assessment (NAAC) and Accreditation Council has been appointed the chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
Singh has been serving as director of NAAC, an autonomous institution of UGC for the last three years. He has over three decades of experience in different aspects of educational planning and administration, institution building, teaching and training, international cooperation, and R&D. Singh has also contributed substantially in the fields of environmental science, vocational education and value education through various academic assignments.
According to the order issued by the department of personnel and training (DoPT), the appointment of Prof Singh as the UGC chairperson is for the duration of five years, following the PMO’s approval of appointment.
The post for UGC chairperson has been vacant since April 2017 post the retirement of Prof Ved Prakash.
