Kidizens'20 Held Virtually, Focus On SDGs

Kidizens'20 (K20), a kid's version of the global event G20, was held virtually on Saturday, in which over 200 students from schools and NGOs from across the country participated. Members of the group had discussions focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The children formulated recommendations to global leaders and emphasized investment in making the world more inclusive for everyone. These recommendations will be incorporated during the mid-term review and evaluation process on the SDGs, which is scheduled to be held in September in New York.

Their key demands included investment in inclusive education for children with disabilities, promoting children's mental health, gender equality in the workforce, promoting girls' education, the introduction of a carbon tax, addressing the shortage of teachers and bridging the gap in quality healthcare access among less privileged and marginalised communities. There were several other issues that were highlighted in the discussion and included in the recommendation.

“We children may be just 18 per cent of the world’s population and 36 per cent of India’s population, but we are 100 per cent of the world’s future, and therefore it is important for us to speak up now," sixteen-year-old Ruksar Rehman who is the President of National Inclusive Children's Parliament said.
