Jadavpur University Students Get Death Threat For Maoist Links

A letter which was found from activist Rona Wilson's house in June has names four students of Jadavpur University in Kolkata.

These youth were mentioned as contact persons to organise protests in other "BJP-ruled states" in the aftermath of Bhima Koregaon riots. Maharashtra Police made the threat letter public on Friday to prove that raids in the last week were based on this letter.

The letter talks about "another Rajiv Gandhi incident" with help of activist Sudhir Dhawale, lawyer Surendra Gadling, activists Mahesh Raut and Shoma Sen and Rona Wilson, all of whom were arrested in the case in June.

Adding to these names, the letter also has names and contact number of Sudip, Biswarup, Sushil and Devjani. Among these Devjani is an alumnus; the rest are present students of JU. In the letter, these people were alleged to be activists of pro-Maoist United Students Democratic Front.

Sushil Mandal who was named in the letter spoke to India Today TV on Monday and denied the allegations. He denied knowing Milind Teltumbde, CPI(M) operative who has allegedly written the letter to Wilson. "I have met Anand Teltumbde in events related to Dalits, but don't know Milind (his brother). I and Biswarup left USDF two years ago and formed Radical a left mass political organisation. Sudip and Devjani are no more related to political activities," said Sushil.

Suhsil denied knowledge of how his number reached in that letter and said that he got threat calls in June when the letter was leaked. "We publish leaflets regarding events with contact numbers on it. Someone must have taken it from there. After the letter was out I got threatening calls. Callers said you are a Naxal. You will be killed. I registered a general diary in Jadavpur police station regarding the threat," added Sushil.

Based on this letter raids were carried out in multiple cities last week after which the five activists were arrested and later sent to house arrest after an SC order. ( Source India today)
