India Set To Take a Higher Place In Education: Prof Virander Singh Chauhan, UGC Chairman

India is set to gain a major place in higher education in the coming days as better funding and better realisation of quality education are in the offing in the country now, said Virander Singh Chauhan, UGC chairman at an event yesterday.

The professor said so while he was delivering the convocation address of the ninth annual convocation of Ravenshaw University.

He called upon the students to the opportunity as privileged sections of society, while adding that the stundetns must take advantage of higher education which is in a transitional period now with the invasion of technology in education.

The professor however disagreed of the idea that successful education is only making the students capable of getting a job the day they step out of the universities.

Prof Virander Singh added, "Education is the training of mind. You may be taught something in the class, but you learn much more outside the class by interacting with others.” While also adding that education is to learn from others, to be able to appreciate someone's view to be better than yours and to have a sense of entitlement.

More than 64 students were awarded with PhD degree on the ninth convocation of the University while 30 students each from Post Graduate  and Under Graduate were awarded with gold medals for their outstanding performances in 2016-17 academic sessions. Vice-chancellor of the University Dr P C Sarangi presided over the function.
