IIT Delhi Introduces New Course On Design Thinking & Innovation

The Continuing Education Programme (CEP) by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is rolling out its sixth certificate programme, centered around Design Thinking and Innovation. The application process is conducted via the official website of the institute and will remain open until September 13.

Scheduled to commence on December 28, the comprehensive course spans 20 weeks. The online format entails an extensive package including over 150 recorded video lectures, upwards of 15 assignments, more than 10 concise quizzes, twice-weekly faculty office hours and a trio of live webinars, topped with a culminating capstone project.

When it comes to fees, prospective participants should be prepared for a cost of Rs 1 lakh + GST.

This meticulously crafted programme is tailored to a broad audience encompassing designers, design engineers, creative managers, art directors, UX designers, entrepreneurs, innovation and growth consultants, product managers, marketing and branding managers, R&D managers, rural entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprise representatives, as well as professionals from various domains.

Eligibility requirements include possession of a graduate degree (10+2+3) or a recognised diploma (10+2+3) from an accredited university in any field. Applicants need to demonstrate a minimum of 50 percent marks and hold at least one year of professional experience.

The program consists of 14 modules, spanning subjects such as Human-Centered Design (HCD) introduction, the interplay between HCD and innovation, understanding context, environment and users, as well as processes like user needs identification, ideation and immersion. Additional modules cover storytelling and visualisation, iterative design, sustainability, Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and New Product Development (NPD), agile design, data-driven innovation and the integration of design, technology and business. The program also delves into the innovation project lifecycle, management tools, strategies for innovation, taking concepts to the market, designing for change and adopting a leadership role in design.

Upon achieving a minimum of 60 per cent marks across all evaluation aspects and successful completion of the capstone project, participants will be bestowed with a completion certificate issued by IIT Delhi. Those who fall short of the 60 per cent threshold or are unable to complete the project will receive a participation certificate instead.

At its core, design thinking is a human-centered method for spurring innovation. It revolves around harmonising user needs, technological possibilities and the demands for business prosperity.
