How To Study Physics Effectively For Upcoming Board Exams

Physics is undoubtedly one of the most important subjects as it applies to so many aspects of our lives. However, studying it gives students night terrors. Many teachers try to simplify the laws and principles for students, but still, the students struggle with this subject either cause they lack the interest to study the subject or are unable to comprehend the concepts better, and flunk in it during exams.

To enable students to understand and learn physics effectively, especially the students who must have started preparing for their upcoming Board Exams in May, here is a 5-step process (for each chapter):

Note: The students must follow the process with an intent to learn, else they’ll just be wasting their time beating around the bush. So, let’s dive in.

Step 1: Read: To begin learning Physics, or for that matter any subject, the student must physically open the book, read the chapter, read what is there in it. This preliminary step is essential to enabling the student to understand the concept in further steps.

Step 2: Understand: Sometimes, reading something with interest/intent enables the reader to comprehend it, however, it is not necessary. So, the students must at least try to understand what the concept is all about while reading it. Try to bring in step 1 and 2 in practice together.

One can also watch an e-learning video, available on multiple platforms, to effectively understand the topic.

So, reading with intent is essential for understanding.

Step 3: Practice: After reading and understanding the concepts, the student can move to the next step of learning physics, i.e., practising. Physics is not alone a theory subject; it has its applications and students need to practice physics exercises to score well in the exams. And so for such exams, practising is altogether a different thing.

The students must practise as many questions as possible with various levels of difficulty. While practising, the students must note doubts in a separate notebook to clear moving ahead.

Note: It is highly recommended that the students do not stick around a question when confused, they must move on from it and come back around later.

Step 4: Clear doubts: There can be doubts while studying concepts or while applying concepts in exercises. The students must take up the queries/doubts up to their school teacher/s or additional tutor. Upon clearing the doubts once, the students must return to the questions and revise them, to understand the approach for themselves.

Step 5: Revise and practice again: Last but not least, the student must revise the whole chapter and practice the parts they felt were complicated.

Later, the student must revise all the chapters (the whole syllabus) at least once to conclude what they learnt.

No one can stop the student from scoring the best marks in physics exams in boards or whenever in life if they follow this 5-step process while reading and learning each of the physics chapters, as this will enable the student to understand the concept deeply. And this way, if the student can learn all the chapters he/she can kill in the physics exam.

The best part about it is that the student can apply this 5-step process to learn any subject effectively.

Another quick advice for the students is to identify and learn difficult chapters first, to be able to relax especially when the exams are closer.
