UPES Partners With ULaw To Offer Global Exposure

UPES (University of Petroleum and Energy Studies) and UK-based The University of Law (ULaw), a multi-disciplinary and specialization-focused University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims in providing opportunities to students that will benefit from the collaborative learning programmes by both institutes. 

The MoU, signed by Dr. Deependra Jha, Vice-Chancellor, UPES and Andrea Nollent, Vice-Chancellor and CEO of ULaw, will further bolster UPES’s efforts to provide qualitative industry-relevant education to students aspiring to excel in law.

Commenting on the collaboration, Dr. Deependra Jha, Vice-Chancellor, UPES said, “We are looking forward to this collaboration with ULaw to provide our students and faculty an opportunity to engage and learn from an institute with such an incredible legacy. Together, we look forward to developing the best legal minds through innovative and contemporary teaching practices. With our specialization courses and ULaw’s global expertise in new age programme, we intend to redefine legal education in India.”

UPES and ULaw also organized a panel discussion on ‘Changing Paradigms in Legal Practice’, on the sidelines of the MoU announcement, to initiate an engaging dialogue with the legal fraternity of the country. Justice Dipak Misra, former Chief Justice of India was the chief guest of this session.

While addressing the delegates, Justice Dipak Misra discussed the modern challenges and skills required in the legal domain today. He said, “Sincerity and hard work are the two qualities that every law student must imbibe before pursuing law as a successful career. In today’s high-tech world where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is dominating our living spaces, there is much more responsibility on the lawyers to be the sovereign of the technology and not be used by it.”

Justice Swatanter Kumar, Former Chairperson, National Green Tribunal presented the keynote address. The panel had veterans and dignitaries from the legal sector- Sadhana Ramachandran, Advocate, Supreme Court; Pavan Duggal, President, Pavan Duggal Associates & Advocates, Supreme Court; Rajat Mukherjee, Partner, Khaitan & Co.; Poonam Verma, Partner, JSA Associates and Vassilis Konstantinou, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, International Development, The University of Law, UK. The session was moderated by Joanna Ballard, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic Development, The University of Law, UK.
