On one side where higher education in India is lashed with new technological advancements while on the other side, the employability data is still stuck on the lower rate which calls for further changes in the root cause.
Dr Pankaj Mittal, Secretary General, Association of Indian Universities, shed light on the learning pattern owned by the universities. Universities in India mainly deal with the issue of ‘What & How to teach’ as technology is changing promptly.
Mittal also drew a basic difference in teaching patterns between foreign and Indian universities, Indian students study in the classrooms and observe it at home by revising while in foreign universities students do vis-a-vis.
She talked about the ‘flipped classroom model’ preferred by the NEP 2020 as well, in which students study the content before it taught in the classroom. She said this clasroom model will enhance the productivity and widen the understanding of the students.
The secretary general also stressed on the role of teachers in this model where they have to provide the video and audio tools to the students for the better understanding.
She also talked about the issue where good teachers need to prepare themselves for making good e-content and for that they will be needing to study alot.
If students are the main stakeholder whose interest is the primary objective then teachers are the main resource providers whose readiness is essential to deal with the future of higher education.
