Teachers Are The Center Of The Whole Education Process: Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Institute of Management, Nirma University

Today is the day to acknowledge the role of teachers’ in students’ life. Yes, its Teacher’s Day. To celebrate the significance of teachers, BW Education hosted a Webinar: Celebrating #Teachers and The New Education Policy 2020 featuring Dr Anup K Singh, Director General, Institute of Management, Nirma University and Dr Rajan Saxena, Former Vice-Chancellor, SVKM's, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).

Talking about the importance of Teacher’s Day, Dr Anup K Singh said, “Teacher’s Day is very important for me because whatever I am today, I am because of my teachers and education has to be faculty-centred. Nowadays, we have it learner-centred. That is fine but unless education is faculty-centred, there is no way that it can be learner-centred and therefore, a teacher is the centre of the whole education process and I am so glad that we have decided to celebrate this day as a memory of Dr Radhakrishnan.

He further added, “For a good teacher, three things are very important and everybody knows about the first three things but nobody knows about the third thing. First thing is, whatever we are teaching, should be relevant to the students and the second thing is that, the way we are delivering should be rigorous. Everybody knows about relevance and rigour but many people ignore the relationship. Teaching is a human process and teachers and students are part of a social group. Unless we emphasize the relationship, teaching is not going to be a life transformational experience.”

Commenting on the New Education Policy, Dr Rajan Saxena said, “The NEP certainly puts a lot of responsibilities on the teachers to innovate and focus on the outcomes of the learning process itself. It is the first time ever that an Education Policy is talking about outcomes. We teachers have to now focus on not just merely the inputs but on the outcomes that what it is that the graduates are going to be doing. And if we are able to define that, it’s much easier to measure it.”
