SPJIMR And Novartis Collaborate To Deliver ‘Saksham’

On the Eve of World Cancer Day, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's SPJIMR and Novartis partnered to deliver the final module of the one year programme, ‘Saksham’, from Feb 01-03 for over 35 participants from 11 states working for the cause of Cancer cure.

Professor Rukaiya Joshi, Chairperson of Centre for Education in Social Sector (CEdSS) at SPJIMR said, “SPJIMR and Novartis took a collaborative decision in 2015 to start a management training programme customised to a certain disease. This has served as a platform for like-minded specialists and experts to connect and share knowledge. Starting from a group for Thalassemia, which received tremendous feedback in India and globally, the programme has also held Cancer-centric workshops. The initiative is in its fourth consecutive year and has connected over 40 organisations working in Cancer care.”

“Saksham is a one year training programme with three modules. It strengthens organisational management, governance, leadership skills and advocacy to deliver long-term sustainable impact in cancer care”, added Professor Rukaiya.

The programme was inaugurated on Friday, May 25 2018 with a formal function in the presence of Ms Priya Dutt, ex MP, who spearheads the Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust as Managing Trustee along with the leadership team from SPJIMR, Novartis India, faculty members, doctors, NGOs and guests. 

‘Saksham’ is a unique customised course designed to strengthen the capability of organisations committed for a patient centered care. The course aims to build capacity of organisations and infuse process orientation, which enhances effectiveness of initiatives and delivers sustainable impact. The course is customised to facilitate organisations to create a long-term road map. 

The key takeaways of the programme are the immense learning assisted by the senior faculty, strong industry network of organisations working in a common disease area, and enabling organisations to chalk out a strategic direction for the next two years.
