Philanthropy and social work is a concept in India that has been offloaded to corporates and high net-worth individuals (HNIs) for long. Despite the numerous funding that India generates for social work from both inside and outside the country (close to USD 32 Billion, as reported by Dasra Philanthropy Report 2018), Indian philanthropists and social workers have often been deemed not trained enough to utilize these funds to their full potential. To mend these shortcomings many institutions (such as TISS, Institute of Rural Management, etc.) have been running academic and non-academic programs to train enthusiasts in social sciences.
Applicants who aspire to bring, wishful change in the society with their philanthropic efforts can also avail a number of fellowship and scholarship programs to attain the requisite qualifications. A social work experience also enhances the value of one’s resume while applying for studies or jobs at foreign institutions.
