Making A Career In Music Is One Approach And Falling In Love With Music Is The Other: Shekhar Ravjiani

Music is a significant part of our life as it is a way of expressing our feelings, ideas and emotions. It is also used as a medium to escape from the pain in life. It gives relief and allows to reduce the stress. Music has become much relevant for education in recent times. Music education refers to the value of music, the value of teaching music and how to practically use those values in the music classroom.

To discuss the role of music in education, BW Education and GIIS-Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music presented BW Dialogue on Learning - "Emerging Role of Music in Education". Shekhar Ravjiani, India's leading Music Composer-Singer and Atul Temurnikar, Co-Founder & Chairman, GIIS, SMART Campus - Punggol, Singapore, Global Indian International School, engaged in a conversation with Dr Annurag Batra, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, BW Businessworld & exchange4media Group.

Talking about the preparations of the institution to cope with the COVID-19 crisis, Atul Temurnikar, Co-Founder & Chairman, GIIS, SMART Campus - Punggol, Singapore, Global Indian International School, said, “We have been enjoying the virtual experience, our students have been able to get throughout the world. 15,000 students simultaneously have been attaining virtual education from day 1, from the day the pandemic and the lockdown was enforced. We believe that there was no disruption in the education of any child, be it anywhere in the world.”

Global Indian International School (GIIS) came into origin in 2002 with just 48 students on Mount Sophia in Singapore. The institution since then grown to seven countries across Asia, with campuses in Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, UAE, Vietnam and India. The school offers Indian and international curricula to students from diverse backgrounds.

Underlining the outcomes of Shekhar Ravjiani School of Music and GIIS in the next couple of months, Shekhar said that the most important thing that he can do is make sure that the love for music stays with the students, the way it is. “Making a career in music is one approach and falling in love with music is the other. In the last 25 years, I have seen that people who focussed only on learning music, destiny on its own drives those people to become successful. We can make sure to show the students, the right path. I am going to be taking them through my experience and through the process of how a song is composed, what should be their expression via music and how should they feel while making a song. I am going to teach them a lot of fine things that is going to improve their music.”
