GoK Invites Applications From Professional Educational Institutions For NAIN

As part of the extension of the New Age Incubation Scheme (NAIN) to colleges in all parts of Karnataka except Bengaluru, the Government of Karnataka’s IT, BT and S&T Department is accepting applications to set up NAIN incubation centers from Engineering and

Non-Engineering Colleges including Degree College, Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Colleges. Institutions must, however, be affiliated to State University in Karnataka or must be a deemed University located in Karnataka and must be at least 10 years old in order to qualify.

Speaking about NAIN initiative, Dr. E. V. Ramana Reddy, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka said, “The Government of Karnataka is actively taking up various initiatives to encourage and groom talent beyond Bengaluru. Under the New Age Incubation Network, students are encouraged to identify local problems and address those using concepts of frugal innovation and to develop appropriate technology-based solutions and working prototypes. It is also expected that the mentors assigned to the students help them to formulate a business model based on this new technology and encourage them to think like entrepreneurs. The NAIN incubators would be networked and connected to a common portal to facilitate the exchange of thoughts, ideas, and collaboration across institutions and disciplines.”

Additionally, it should have enough infrastructure and capacity to conduct mentoring and networking events accommodating up to 125-150 participants. Institutions will be selected based on their infrastructure, quality of faculty and excellence in education.

Prashant Kumar Mishra, MD, KITS, said, “This is the yet another step towards creating the necessary ecosystem and environment for students to take up entrepreneurial assignments and showcase their innovation skills. Through this initiative, the Government is setting up a seamless working environment for young minds to excel in the areas of both IT and Biotechnology. Students will have the added advantage of interacting with mentors and like-minded entrepreneurs on the same platform.”

Applicants may either log on to http://k-tech.org or submit the application form in hard copy to Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS), BMTC Central Office Building, TTMC, ‘B’ Block, 4th Floor, Shantinagar, KH Road, Bengaluru – 560027. The last date to submit applications is 26th September 2019.
