BMU’s Move To Virtual Teaching Receives Good Response

BML Munjal University (BMU), a Hero Group initiative, today shared that their move to virtual teaching has more than 1000 students logged in every day to attend classes. BMU offers Graduate and PG Programme in B Tech, Law, BBA, MBA, PHD and Executive Learning courses. The decision to transition classes was made swiftly and early by the university and was a part of an attempt at social distancing. Now with the lockdown enforced for 21 days, these classes will continue to be conducted virtually and without interruption.

BMU closed down the university on 14th March and the hostels were vacated by 17th March.

“Our tech orientation and familiarity with online courses have helped to make the transition to virtual classes swiftly and with minimal disruption”, said Prof Manoj Arora, Vice-Chancellor of BML Munjal University. “The feedback from both the teachers and the students has been very positive and encouraging and we’re glad that we have been able to continue to serve our students with minimal disruption”.

BMU has taken several measures to keep the students, faculty and staff motivated

● BMU is using standards-based systems and technology platforms (Google Classroom, Zoom, Webex, Google Hangouts/Meets, Skype) to deliver classes which are being scheduled as per their regular timetable

● The Faculty of Law is, in fact, conducting a session with Rohit De, Associate Professor, Yale University on Friday, 27th March 2020, for BMU's School of Law. Rohit De is an award-winning researcher and well-known historian of modern South Asia

○  The topic for the lecture is Judging History: the uses of the past in the present legal training

● A quick guide on hygiene and precautions has been shared with all staff to help prevent the spread of this pandemic.

● Vertical academic and support staff are regularly online at set times, to communicate with students in open forums to ensure community and connection is maintained.

●  Essential updates are being sent to students regularly via email.

● Further information about best practice working from home has been shared through webinars and material sent to staff.
