IIT Madras Introduces B.Tech In AI And Data Analytics

Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a BTech programme in AI and Data Analytics, aiming to develop expertise in various aspects of AI and its applications across various industries. The programme, which will be admitted in the upcoming academic year of 2024-25, is designed to equip students with essential skills and knowledge.

The programme, which aims to develop expertise in AI and data analytics, is currently accepting applications for the 2024 batch. Admission is through the JEE (Advanced) exam, with a student strength of 50. Emphasis is placed on Math Fundamentals, Data Science/AI/ML Foundations, Application Development and Responsible Design, with a unique interdisciplinary approach.

The Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, established by IIT Madras alumni Sunil Wadhwani and co-founders of IGATE and Mastech Digital, is offering a course to become one of the top AI-focused schools globally and provide guidance to governments and policymakers on Data Science and AI-related policy areas.

The B.Tech. Programme provides academic flexibility, allowing students to choose from various electives within and outside the department. These electives range from Speech and Language Technology and Computer Vision to Control and Detection and Time-Series Analysis, allowing students to explore their passions.

The core curriculum covers various subjects, including linear algebra, calculus, machine learning, deep learning and reinforcement learning. Students receive a robust toolkit to tackle multiple challenges in this field. Practical experience is incorporated through lab sessions, workshops and real-world projects, preparing students with theoretical knowledge and hands-on expertise for industry application.
