Brexit Had No Affect In University Applications: Prof Robert Allison, VC, President, Loughborough University

Major applications in Loughborough University from India come in engineering, followed by business and economics, and sports, says Prof. Robert Allison, VC and President of Loughborough University.

Loughborough ranks on an average among around 150 universities across UK. Admitting students across from over 100 countries across different programs, the university admits students on minimum academic standards but people who really engage with the university.

Professor Robert Allison, Vice-Chancellor and President of Loughborough University said, “The university has around 17,500 students, and more than 150 are from India. Most popular courses for students coming from India comes into 3 groups. The most popular is engineering, followed by business and economics, and the third is sports. However, we have lack of students coming into arts.”

On remuneration for graduates, Prof. Robert Allison claimed, “Loughborough University is one of the top 3 universities in UK in terms of graduate employability. Loughborough graduates, on an average get 6k pounds more than an average graduate.”

About the Brexit affect, he added, “Number of applications in Loughborough University has steadily risen so we didn’t have any effect of Brexit whatsoever. In the last 5 years, applications in every other university have gone down except for Loughborough, which is majorly because of the graduate employability.”

Loughborough compulsorily gives internship opportunity to every student, an agreement of which is done during the admission process, and the only intern companies agreed to are paid internship, which helps boost the confidence of students. The university has internship tie-ups with some major brands like Rolls Royce, JLR, Ford, KPMG, EY and PwC across the world.

The university has set-up an incubator facility on campus, and a part of that is reserved for the students, where the university staff helps students to develop that idea into reality.

Prof. Robert Allison concluded, “Research, teaching and enterprise go hand in hand for Loughborough University and 90 percent of the success is the quality of the people that work in the university. We have risen up from 27 to 6th position in UK in the last 4-5 years and that is all because of the staff and students.”
