BITS Pilani Introduces Industry-Mentored PhD Programme

BITS Pilani has introduced the IMPACT (Industry Mentored PhD in Advanced and Cutting-edge Technologies) programme, aiming to reward innovative work and foster academia-industry partnerships, allowing professionals to conduct high-impact research and culminate in a PhD.

The BITS Pilani PhD programme offers participants guidance from faculty and industry experts, access to advanced facilities and the prestige of being part of a world-class programme. The programme is unique as it allows companies to enroll or sponsor new PhD students, who will be jointly mentored by BITS professors and industry scientists. Participants can undertake real-world problem-solving and advance their careers, conduct cutting-edge research and earn a PhD from BITS Pilani. This innovative scheme encourages MNCs to present specific problem statements for PhD research, leading to effective solutions benefiting scholars and companies.

Candidates must have an equivalent degree with a minimum 60 per cent aggregation in their qualifying exam and be employed by a company that participates in the PhD programme by identifying industry issues, assigning corporate mentors and providing financial support.

PhD IMPACT encompasses various science and technology fields including AI/ML, data science, NLP, cyber security, robotics, 3D printing, sensor development, IoT, antennas, microwave communications, natural and renewable energy, energy storage, efficient energy transfer, green chemistry, catalysis, methane production, carbon capture, drug discovery and pharmacokinetics.
