On July 15, the Supreme Court sought responses from student-petitioners regarding a request by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to transfer their NEET-UG 2024 cases, currently pending in various High Courts, to the Supreme Court. The NTA is facing scrutiny over allegations of exam leaks and other irregularities.
Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, leading the Bench, issued notices to the students involved. The NTA's request aims to consolidate these cases for a comprehensive ruling by the Supreme Court. The Bench, which includes Justices J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, is addressing over 40 petitions, ranging from demands for a re-examination to calls for the abolition of the NTA.
The Supreme Court will hear the case on July 18, focusing initially on whether to order a re-test. The court emphasised its intent to protect the futures of the 23 lakh students who took the NEET on May 5, ensuring that any decision does not unfairly penalise innocent examinees while addressing those involved in misconduct.
