JMI, Delhi Police Collaborate For Refresher Training Of Police Officers

The UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC) and the Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), have joined forces with the Delhi Police's Special Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) to conduct a series of three-day refresher training programmes. These programmes are designed for police officers working within the SPUWAC and its District Units. The third training in the series, took place from 13 to 15 to October 2023, at UGC-HRDC, JMI. The primary objective of this training series is to enhance the skills and knowledge of the participants to effectively address cases of violence within marital relationships.


The training initiative commenced with a welcome session led by Professor Anisur Rehman, Director of UGC-HRDC and Professor Neelam Sukhramani, Head of the Department of Social Work, JMI. Their goal was to foster mutual learning by allowing trainees to refresh their understanding of gender dynamics and improve their ability to handle various forms of violence encountered in their line of work.


The three-day training programme addressed various themes, including gender perspectives, power dynamics, forms of domestic violence, their impact on mental health and children, alcoholism's influence on marital relationships and issues related to sexual intimacy. Additionally, the programme aimed to build emotional resilience among police officers, considering the emotionally challenging nature of their work.


Expert facilitators from JMI, Delhi University and field practitioners led the training sessions. The 35 participants came from various District Crime Against Women and Children Cells, including the central office at Nanakpura.
