Thirteen Indian students, seven women and six men, have joined the seventh batch of the NS Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship programme at IIM Bangalore. The one-year certificate program offers mentorship from internationally acclaimed faculty members, interaction with current and former PhD scholars, and expert guidance in writing research proposals. The students will study in areas such as Decision Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Public Policy, Production & Operations Management, OB & HRM, Economics, Strategy, and Marketing.

The N.S. Ramaswamy Pre-doctoral Fellowship (NSR Pre-doc), launched in 2018 by IIM Bangalore, is a unique program designed to help students prepare for a doctoral degree. The program, which focuses on preparing students for PhD programmes in fields like Economics and Entrepreneurship, has seen a steady increase in interest. The program is tailored to the needs of doctoral-level students, helping them navigate the application process. After completing the program at IIMB, students are prepared to take tests and interviews in universities where their research areas align. Professor Anil B Suraj, Chairperson of the NSR Pre-doc Fellowship programme, expressed pride in delivering this pioneering programme.

Professor Mukta Kulkarni, Dean Programmes at IIMB, praised the NSR Pre-doc Fellowship as unique and urged students to work with mentors and PhD students, choose carefully and develop a strong focus due to the high rigor of the programme.

“I find the perspectives of Pre-doc students interesting. It is an enriching experience to teach you. Do use the resources at IIMB wisely”, Professor Ganesh Prabhu, said.

“This is a great opportunity for you to reflect on where you plan to go after the programme. Get a sense of clarity and work on your plan”, Professor Apurva Sanaria, said.

“A launchpad and lifetime opportunity for those keen on an academic career”, Professor Aditya Shrinivas, said.
