Dr. Ahindra Chakrabarti, a respected academic and finance expert, has passed away. He was known for his contributions to management education, research and public service over a distinguished career spanning decades.
Chakrabarti joined Great Lakes Institute of Management as a professor in 2013, where he shared his expertise in finance and management with students and colleagues. Before this, he served as the Director of the International Management Institute (IMI) Kolkata.
His career included teaching at the Management Development Institute (1978–1996) and IMI New Delhi (1996–2010). He also held leadership roles as the Director of the Institute for Integrated Learning and Management (IILM) New Delhi and Director General of the Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB).
Chakrabarti earned his Master’s and PhD in Commerce from the University of Burdwan and an LLB from the University of Delhi. He was an expert in financial and management accounting, cost management and infrastructure finance, with a focus on the energy sector. He also worked on consulting projects for global organisations like the World Bank, European Commission and International Labour Organisation.
In addition to academia, Chakrabarti contributed to public service. He was an Independent Director for Western Coalfields Limited and served on expert committees for the Government of India.
