Centre Reduces Cut-off Marks By 25% For 2022-23 PG Medical Courses

On Monday, the centre approved reducing the cut-off scores for admission to PG medical programmes for 2022–23 while taking into account the fact that many seats have gone vacant during the PG counselling process held for the last academic session. According to official sources cited by PTI, the cut-off marks for all categories will be reduced by 25 percentile.

They added that the decision was made in light of the National Medical Commission's (NMC) recommendations.

According to the sources, there were approximately 1,400 vacant seats in pre-and para-clinical subjects in the previous session.

An official source stated that since such post-graduate seats going vacant is a sheer wastage of resources in a country where postgraduate medical seats are premium, a decision to reduce the cut-off for admission to post-graduate courses for 2022–23 by 25 percentile across all categories has been taken.

The NMC recommended lowering the qualifying percentile for post-graduate programmes for 2022 during a meeting that was held on October 14.

Based on the reduction of cut-off marks by 25 percentile across all categories, the revised qualifying percentile/cutoff for general category candidates would be 25 percentile, for candidates who fall under the PWD-general category, it would be 20 percentile, and for candidates who fall under the SC/ST/OBC categories, it would be 15 percentile.
