Amity University Marks World Liver Day

Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine & Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), Amity University Noida, has organised an insightful International Seminar on the theme, ‘Keep Your Liver Healthy and Disease Free’ to celebrate ‘World Liver Day’.

Dr Ashok Choudhury, Hepatology and Liver Transplant Group, Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS), New Delhi, said, “Wellness includes all emotional, physical, financial, spiritual, social and cultural. The main liver problems are fatty liver which is a result of obesity, hepatitis which is caused by diabetes and cirrhosis caused mainly due to excessive alcohol consumption. Therefore, it is essential to develop a healthy lifestyle, eat a good diet and exercise regularly to avoid such problems.”

Dr Ashish Goyal, DKFZ German Cancer Research Center, Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Deutschland, stated, “The theme for this year's World Liver Day is ‘Be Vigilant, Get Regular Liver Check-Ups and Prevent Fatty Liver Diseases’.

The increase in the number of deaths every year caused due to liver diseases is alarming and a lack of awareness and limited knowledge about the liver and the role it plays in our bodies is there in humans”, said. 

Dhyan Chandra, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Centre Buffalo, New York, USA, said, “In many health cases, patients do not look sick or feel weak at the initial stage and once the symptoms start appearing, it’s too late for proper treatment. Therefore, timely diagnosis and treatment is crucial in the case of liver diseases.”

Dr B C Das, Chairman, Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research (AIMMSCR), said, “This International Seminar aims to raise awareness about liver diseases and Hepatitis by sharing information about liver diseases. Many people may be living with hidden liver diseases or hepatitis but are unaware of the same”.
